Vocational Training and Equipment

In Nepal, our partners provide vocational training in knitting to young women who are victims of trafficking or “at risk” because of lack of income. They make the wonderful woolen hats for sale on this website. With proceeds from our sales we also provide training in sewing to help provide the income year round that is necessary to keep young women in their communities and protect them from traffickers.

With proceeds from our sales and donations, Eternal Threads distributes treadle sewing machines to rescued girls and those who are at risk of exploitation because of poverty. A sewing machine and vocational training gives these girls hope for a future life.

In Madagascar, women weavers have passed their unique skill from generation to generation. Their products are exquisite, but they lack a local market. Eternal Threads supports their efforts by providing consultation on forming cooperatives and how to best market their product. Our partner, Mirana Abraham, provides guidance on quality control and design.

In Afghanistan, Eternal Threads donated a computerized embroidery machine to a women's shelter to give them a means of earning an income and provide funds for the shelter.

At the end of 2009, Eternal Threads will use proceeds from our sales to purchase badly needed spinning wheels for artisan groups to replace the primitive equipment that they have now (as seen in this picture.)
